Review: Helping to solve problems with reiki in Sydney

I think if someone wants certainty, then a reiki treatment won’t be quite right for them. Aside from setting the intent that a client will take from the client what she or he needs, there’s no guarantee that a treatment will fix a physical problem, or a worry or an issue.

But I guess that’s true of most treatments, or perhaps, most situations in life.

What I do know is that when clients give themselves the gift of a treatment, it means they are taking a positive step to do something good for themselves, and if they have an issue, a movement towards addressing that issue.

Relaxing, though perhaps problem-solving at the same time!

Relaxing, though perhaps problem-solving at the same time!

Then, by relaxing in a safe, healing space, even without the reiki, it’s a good thing for people. Most people are busy in their lives, have too much stress and don’t get enough sleep.

At the same time, I’m always pleased to hear back from clients about what their experience was. Here’s some comments from Lou, a new client. I love how her reiki treatment helped her work through some challenges and problems in her life, during the treatment, and we’ll see how it continues! I’ll ask Lou for some more feedback in the next days. Thanks, Lou, for your feedback:

‘I found it really interesting how I felt wide awake the whole time, but my mind, rather than racing (which it normally does) was very purposefully moving from challenge to challenge, and creating ways in which to solve them.  I felt very focused and calm during this process.’

Clients come from all over Sydney to see me, and I’ve also had clients who are visiting Sydney from Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast come and see me while they’re here for business, conferences or meeting families. While it’s easiest to get to me from the CBD, Darlinghurst, Paddington, Kings Cross, Redfern and Potts Point, I’m pretty easy to get to from anywhere in Sydney. Review: ‘Heartfelt gratitude’

I’m not quite sure what’s happening in the universe or world at the moment, but I’ve had so many reiki clients lately, including some wonderful women who have been also bringing their friends.

I really enjoyed giving a treatment to Brie, and afterwards, I was blown away by her positive description of what happened. Also, she’d twisted her ankle a few days before, and we were both surprised how much the treatment helped.

She wrote this wonderful review on my Facebook page, which is too nice not to share here too:

‘Oh em geee! My life will forever be blessed by this treatment and experience. Something out of this world happens through this master of whatever it is that he does. I will personally send every person that I know and meet to Andy. Since my session I can not explain the heartfelt gratitude that I feel for everything in my life and the visions that I had in my session will stay with me forever. I sent my friend there, and we cried all the way home in the uber and we are not even sure why. They were tears of relief and it was such a gift to us to be healed by such a talented and humble man. Yes, I realise it was reiki but I feel that it is something more.’

Testimonial: ‘A powerful effect’

Since returning from Paris in May, I’ve had a nice group of steady clients. I checked in on one former client and found she’s moved back to the UK, but she gave me permission to post her reiki story.

My client, H, came for a treatment, feeling a lot of pressure and stress from her work.

After the treatment, she told me ‘I really felt a shift after the Reiki, that same evening and felt the heaviness and confusion start to lift and I cried and cried but it felt like I needed to!

Then in the days after I felt much better and was inspired to follow a new career path which has got me really excited. Thinking about moving towards that has given me lots of confidence and energy, and I’m starting to plan how to make it happen.

The session really helped me to get everything on track, to get me unstuck, and see clearly again.

It’s amazing how it works, it seems to have a powerful effect on me!’

I can’t promise the same results for everyone but this is a great example of the positive effects of a reiki treatment.

Away 18 Feb–23 May & report from the start of 2016

The end of 2015 and start of 2016 were interesting. Clients came seeking relief from stress,  feeling like a cold was coming on, and emotional turmoil. One client reported feeling very relaxed after the treatment and as if she had big burdens lifted… but has returned after to being stressed out all the time. Another client felt neither better nor worse after the treatment. Another said she felt ‘as balanced as I can be’ and that it was an ‘excellent service’.

AndyQ_64I always find it interesting how different the results are from treatments, and am always happy if I can be of any help. I think generally I found that clients feel relaxed, or energised during the treatment, and have an interesting experience of the energy. But they may have problems maintaining that feeling of well-being after the treatment.

What I emphasise is that someone may feel different effects from a reiki treatment, even between two in the same week or month. Reiki is not a solution to an emotional, psychological or physical problem, but it may provide some help and relief. Some people find it very powerful; others can hardly feel the effects.

I think it’s a great idea if you’re called to try reiki, to try out a treatmet and see how it feels for you. It’s also useful if you can catch yourself before you’re feeling in crisis to make that appointment. If it felt good or useful during or after a treatment, then why not view it as something generally good for yourself, and that could also help head off difficult times, rather than only be used when you’re feeling really terrible.

It’s as good a time as any to say that I’m overseas soon, like last year, and will be unavailable to give treatments between 18 February and 23 May. But don’t be a stranger. Message me if you have any enquiries or want to keep in touch.

Holidays (late Dec 2015 and early Jan 2016)

Just a quick note to say Reiki Surry Hills is closed during the holiday period between 18 December and 5 January. Send a message if you’d like to make an appointment in the new year; otherwise, have a wonderful holidays.

Latest testimonial: Definitely useful.

A client sent me this wonderful testimonial to share with all of you:

‘I went to see Andy after finding his site – I was looking for Reiki treatments in the Surry Hills area of Sydney.

Andy was able to offer me flexible appointment times, and gave detailed instructions to the building, as it’s a bit of a backstreet place.

I found Andy to be welcoming and I immediately felt at ease. I had not had a Reiki treatment before, and was a little unsure as to what to expect. Andy explained that I would be lying on the treatment table, and the treatment might require touch on a particular joint or muscle, but that it would mostly be him hovering his hands over certain areas that appeared to trap a lot of energy.

I was awake, but sleepy for the treatment – and it certainly passed very quickly. It was very relaxing, and I was fascinated that I could feel heat in certain areas as the energy was being moved, and sometimes I could feel a buzzing sensation. I can’t say that I understand the treatment per se, but it certainly worked on areas of my body that needed help. For example, I had a knot in my left shoulder and felt the energy being moved from that area – and after the treatment I no longer had a knot in my shoulder. Also, Andy found issues that my body had, including tenderness in my right knee and headaches on my right temple. These areas buzzed when Andy’s hands hovered over them.

It was very precise, and I definitely felt that the treatment was useful for my body. The treatment ended, and Andy made me a cup of tea and discussed the effects of the treatment and listened to my feedback.

I left feeling very calm, and pleased that I had tried Reiki and trusted my instinct and gone to see Andy.

The treatment itself is a decent amount of time, and reasonably priced. I would definitely go to see Andy again!

Kate.’

Kate: Thanks so much for your feedback. I find it great to know when a treatment has helped a client, and how. Looking forward to seeing you again, when you need a treatment… Andy

Serendipity

A flock of cockatoos land in the liquidambar tree next to our balcony.

The Macquarie Dictionary defines ‘serendipity’ as ‘making desirable but unsought-for discoveries’.

I quite like this word.

The idea of fate is too strong for me, that we’re pulled in one direction without any choice in the matter. I understand superstition but am not completely convinced about the lucky signs that people find in the world.

But I have found something… unexplainable… about the last week or so in terms of reiki. My teacher, Frans Steine, was hosting a Reiki 2 course up at his beautiful place in the Blue Mountains. He allows former students to resit classes for a much-reduced rate, which I think is great in so many ways: it recognises that learning is a continual process and gives us the opportunity to keep in contact with his teachings. I think it’s also good for new students to be in the energy of past students, and hopefully we can help out in the class too in some way.

In any case, I signed up to do the course last Sunday. The only people who knew were two of the other students (who had done Reiki 1, which I’d resat at the same time), and my partner, perhaps a few friends. One of the other reasons I wanted to do the course is that I was feeling a bit out of touch with Reiki and its energy. My last client had come over six weeks before that, where usually I have a client every two weeks or so.

What happened next? Well:

  • The day before the course, an acquaintance from the gym I attended years ago saw me walking through a nearby park. He looked me up on the internet, saw that I did reiki and decided to book in immediately for a treatment.
  • While I was at the course, a new client called, wanting to book in a treatment. She eventually booked in yesterday, a week later.
  • The same day of the course, a client from a few months ago sent by email a testimonial for me to use on my website and Facebook page.
  • And on Monday, a client I hadn’t seen in about a year booked in for another treatment…

This all seems rather… serendipitous to me, surprising and wonderful.

So, as we start a new month, here’s wishing you some serendipity too…

Learn Reiki in Surry Hills

If you’ve been a client of mine, you’ve been to the suburb of Surry Hills in Sydney.

And if you’ve ever wanted to learn Reiki, here’s a great opportunity:

My teacher, Frans Steine, is teaching Level 1 of Reiki, in Surry Hills on 30–31 May 2015. It’s from 10am to 5pm both Saturday and Sunday at 99 Crown Street.

More information is here.

Frans is known as one of the world’s leading reiki teachers and practitioners and we’re really lucky to have him here in Australia. He travels the world where students are anxious to learn with him. These days, after the International House of Reiki’s studio in Newtown has closed, Frans teaches less often in Sydney (and more often in the Blue Mountains where he lives).

So, it’s a really good opportunity, if you live in Sydney, to be introduced to reiki from one of the best teachers around.

There are three levels of teaching in Reiki. This level, Shoden, is the first. You’ll learn meditation techniques and to treat yourself and others.

Reiki has been a great gift to my life; I’m clearer and stronger in myself, more able to deal with external problems, and my internal life is richer and more at peace. If you have any questions, just ask!

And there’s more information about reiki and Frans’ teaching at their website at the International House of Reiki.

Introduction to Japanese Traditional Reiki

One of the things that surprised me when my brother first taught me Reiki, many years ago, was how many different types of reiki there are. I suppose it shouldn’t surprise me by now that human beings are always expanding and arguing and that any school or movement or set of teachings is going to diverge into many branches, as it has with religions and schools of thought.

I feel lucky then to have discovered a Reiki teacher here in Australia who was running weekly practice sessions on the same street that I was working in Newtown – and that I connect with his philosophy of Reiki. Frans (and his wife Bronwen) questioned early on in their Reiki path why the hands-on healing seemed separate from a spiritual practice. Their research, study and exploration have lead them to the conclusion that the Reiki practised in Japan by its founder had many components, all of which aimed at spiritual health and development, a way of uncovering and nurturing the ‘Great white light’ that we are made of. The hands-on healing part is only a component, but it is what became known and popular in the West.

When I explain this to my clients, they understand immediately. As a healer, I can’t do work on them unless I have done work on myself. If all of the energy is focused outwards towards them, without having done spiritual development work myself, the package is incomplete (and I would argue the treatments will not be as strong).

I read an old post from the International House of Reiki, a transcript of a talk Frans gave in Washington in 2009, and it’s a great story of how Frans and Bronwen came to reiki, and came to want to explore and spread the idea of Japanese Traditional Reiki. I also like the concept or metaphor of us being made of Great Bright Light and that meditation and healing is all in the aims of uncovering that light that has gathered dust and obstructions in our daily lives.

Here’s the post!

In other news, I’ve not found a need for regular blogging on my website. Blogs used to be so much more popular, and also served as a way of showing one’s expertise and legitimacy, as well as making connections with readers. But these days of information overload, people use the Internet in a much different way. I don’t feel a need particularly to add to the writings out there, when there is such good stuff to be found already at the International House of Reiki website and elsewhere. What I sense is that if clients or potential clients drop by my site, they won’t want to spend much time reading about reiki, when it’s much better to experience a treatment in person! Still, I’ll blog occasionally… or repost links from IHR, just to make sure there’s a little new content on my website from time to time. Feel free to comment and ask questions, here or on my facebook page!

Reiki Surry Hills on holidays, 27 Sept – 13 Oct 2013

Reiki Surry Hills is on holidays 27 Sept – 13 Oct 2013.

I’m off on holidays to Scandiwegia from tomorrow until 13 October. Back starting work on 14 October, possibly with a Swedish, Finnish or Danish accent, but probably not.

(I didn’t come back with an accent, but I loved the trip!)
